Welcome to the World Biomaterials Community!

Welcome to the World Biomaterials Community where we have decided to expand our virtual presence. The benefits of the community for you include knowledge-sharing, educational development, general networking, Congress updates and professional development. What this means to the world of Biomaterials is that the conversations and materials discussed at the World Biomaterials Congress can continue in the community before and after WBC 2020 Virtual.

WBC 2020 Virtual will include access to presentations (live and pre-recorded) from world leaders and experts, including industry symposia and ePoster presentations; available on-demand for up to three months after the congress. There will be a parallel virtual exhibition where you can meet industry partners, browse products, and set up meetings completing the full congress experience. Visit the main website for further details.

We look forward to seeing the conversations flourish on the WBC community as we all connect and engage.

Best Wishes
WBC 2020 Conference Secretariat

Hi there everyone!

Just to follow on from the WBC Secretariat’s welcome, please allow me to introduce myself - I’m Emily, and I’m here to make sure that the World Biomaterials Community runs as smoothly as possible

As you get started exploring the Community, here are a few tips to help get things going:

  1. You will automatically receive an Email Digest of Community activity, which will contain all of the content that’s been posted since you last viewed it, in an easy-to-digest format. You can set email and notification preferences at any time, simply by clicking the ‘Preferences’ tab in the dropdown under your profile icon in the top right hand corner.

  2. To respond to a question or discussion posted in the Forum, use the “Reply” button to add your thoughts and comments. You can also attach files, include links, images and videos, and ‘tag’ other Community members in your posts too!
Why not test it out by replying to this post with who you are, where in the World you’re joining us from, and in which area(s) of Biomaterials you specialise!

  3. As the Community is all about people, it’s always nice to see who you’re in conversation with! Why not go ahead and fill out your profile? Just head to the ‘Preferences’ tab as above!

  4. Whilst this platform links to the World Biomaterials Congress in December, it has also been developed as a safe online space where we can grow and nurture the Biomaterials community, so please do invite your colleagues to join the conversation today!

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have questions or need help - that’s what I’m here for! If you hover over my photo, you have the opportunity to ‘Message’ me, so please feel free to contact me if you have any queries with regards to the Community platform.

I look forward to connecting with you!

Am I the first worldwide user to post here? Awesome! :->
Must be because I’m around the corner from Glasgow, in Edinburgh at Heriot-Watt University.
I specialise in polymer biomaterials for biofabrication.

Hi, too bad not to meet you this year ! I am the PhD of sebastien blanquer your successor at twente  In any case I am impatient to see your presentation if you make one

Great to be able to be part of the WBC community. I’m looking forward to learning about this on-line format and engaging with the community.

And as one of the Executive Committee for WBC2020 welcome everyone.
We hope that this community will allow active discussion of Biomaterials worldwide across countries and time zones. Please keep coming back as put more information up on the Virtual WBC2020. There is a call for new Abstracts open. Information on the Plenary Speakers is already up.

Hi everyone!
Such a good idea to create this community
Sad that we are not meeting this year but looking forward to future events!
I am a doctoral student at BioMediTech Institute from Tampere in Finland specializing in synthetic bone graft solutions
Looking forward to discuss with you all before, during and after WBC 2020 :hugs:

Welcome everyone to the World Biomaterials Community! As a member of the Executive Committee it is great to have your input.

We look forward to interacting with Biomaterials researchers from around the world over the coming months through our exciting new and vibrant platform.

It’s great to see some comments really supporting the development of this community! So tell me, @audrey.deraine @thomas.brossier and @paul.dalton - what is it that you hope to get out of the Community, or how do you envisage it will help the world of biomaterials? Not a trick question, I promise! It would just be good to hear your thoughts

Great to have you join us!

Kind regards,

Hi Emily,
To my best knowledge it’s the first time that a so large community online of scientifics is created around biomaterials. So it’s a chance to be a part of that and have the possibility to exchange in this specific situation (due to Covid). I hope that community would be an opportinity to discuss direclty with people around the world on the same problematic of research. To ask, solve and innovate together. I envisage to bring research higher and faster by some colaboration between scientifics. I hope that some partnerships would be created after fews exchange by community or at least some answers to different problems.

Best regards,
